Financial planning: frequently asked questions
Should I put money in an RRSP or a TFSA?
An RRSP gives you a tax deduction now and is taxed when withdrawn, so it often suits higher earners who expect a lower income in retirement. A TFSA has no deduction, but growth and withdrawals are tax-free, which suits many lower and middle earners. Many people use both.
What does a financial plan include?
A plan covers your goals, cash flow, savings, debt, retirement outlook and taxes, with clear next steps and a timeline.
When is the RRSP deadline for the 2026 tax year?
March 1, 2027. Contributions made by then can be deducted on your 2026 return, up to your RRSP deduction limit shown on your notice of assessment.
